Hello there and welcome to Afronaturalhair.com!
I am Josephine, a Namibian mum of two gorgeous boys and we live in Italy.
I started my journey of natural hair in 2009 after I moved to Italy and struggling to take care of my hair. It was not an easy road and I sort of settled into keeping my hair natural after struggling to find a good hairdresser. During this time I “big chopped” twice, first just after my move and secondly as a personal choice to grow them naturally and eventually turn them into dreadlocks. I did not find anyone that could loc my hair and I had no idea how to do them myself. As my hair grew, I fell in love with my afro although I struggled a lot to find the right hair products. As the hair grew, many friends and relatives kept asking me how I take care of my hair and the more I was asked the more I realized I was not the only one struggling with ethnic natural hair. So I started researching (via natural hair vlogs and blogs) on how to better take care of my afro and how to style it. I started experimenting and through “trial and error” found what works for me.
I started this blog to share my journey and experience of discovering the beauty of my hair and to inspire others out there who might be in the same boat as I am (and was). Every day I learn something new about my hair and the more I learn, the more I want to share. If you are a “naturalista” and would like connect and share your story, please leave a comment or get in touch via email.
Although the main focus of this blog is about my natural hair, besides being an afro natural haired mum, I am also an expat. I will also use this blog to share my experience as a Namibian living in northern Italy. My experience of learning a new culture, a new language, and absorbing new ways of living. If there are any expats out there, let’s connect and share our experiences.
